Class location:  Flatiron Wines (18th & Broadway)
Thursday, May 18  |  7pm-8:45pm

While not often thought of together (despite sharing a border), the wines of these two nations complement one another beautifully, and I'm excited to highlight some of what each does best.

Austria is best known for its whites (Grüner Veltliner, Riesling),  and with good reason.  They are racy, exotic, and full of life.  They are versatile, and wizards at complementing food, but also drink well on their own.  And red wine?  Oh yes, Blaüfrankisch, Zweigelt, Saint Laurent, and more, all indigenous, and all worthy of your time.  No mere afterthought these.

If you’ve taken Italy classes with me before, these will be new discoveries from this country that never stops innovating and redefining the status quo.  I love Barolo and Barbaresco, and I think the world of Chianti.  But behind those juggernauts one finds the spicy and grippy Lagrein, the elegant Nebbiolos of Carema, and the inky Aglianicos from Basilicata.  Such beautiful wines, but you only know if you know.

We'll taste 8-10 wines, and yes, cheese, breads, and charcuterie will be served - the good stuff and plenty of it.  It's a return to the old days, even if just for one day.  I hope to see you, and thank you for your consideration.
